They’ll rock the runway at IIFA
Remember how pop star Justin Timberlake brought sexy back at the Victoria’s Secret show in Los Angeles in 2006? The fashion presentation by designers Manish Malhotra and Vikram Phadnis at the 2010 International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards won’t be much different. Just that the Grammy winner won’t ‘cry us a river’!
Taking a cue from the lingerie giant, IIFA is all set to have musician duo Salim and Sulaiman Merchant serenading the runway at a fashion show co-presented by Malhotra and Phadnis. The show, part of the IIFA Weekend, will have the composers perform while the models strut.“The organisers wanted to do something new and approached us with the concept. We had a meeting with the designers and things fell in place. We’ll perform at the show in June,” says Salim Merchant on the duo’s behalf. Though the playlist is yet to be finalised, Merchant says their choreographed performance will also feature members of the London Philharmonic Orchestra. “We’re planning to get them on board,” he says.
While last year Hrithik Roshan and wife Sussane swaggered down the IIFA runway, Phadnis, who opens the joint show this year says he hasn’t decided on the showstopper yet. “My show will boast of an old-world charm. There’ll be a lot of drapes, dupattas and lehengas,” he says.
