Sri Lankan plans 6 more flights

Sri Lankan' is planning to add an additional six flights to Mumbai and back to cater to the increased number of passengers during the mega International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards blitz in Colombo next month.

The Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Board has said that thousands more are expected for the event, the biggest ever celebration that Sri Lanka has ever hosted.

“There are some 1,000 invitees and we have enough flights to bring them up and down,” a senior airline official said. The official said Sri Lankan and other Indian airlines flying to Colombo are able to
handle the additional traffic.

There are six airlines flying daily to Colombo from Indian destinations and back and they can handle more passengers, he said, adding that there are reports of Indian low-budget carrier Spice Jet also interested in launching flights between Chennai and Colombo. Airline industry officials said it is possible that some of the Indian high-fliers planning to attend the event may even use their personal jets for travel to Colombo and back.
